Art Meets Communication: Learn to Read Emotion Through Drawing and Clay

Sophie Zadeh, Nonverbal Communication Specialist and Artist. I combine an unusual skillset of art and nonverbal communication for a fun and interesting professional development away day activity workshop.

Communication Meets Art

Communication meets art in this unique, fun and enjoyable corporate team activity for organisations in Perth. Participants will learn about emotion (fear, anger, happiness, sadness, disgust, surprise and contempt) and how to read facial expressions through drawing and clay.

As well as reaping the therapeutic benefits of art and creativity, participants will walk away with better communication skills and the ability to read the emotional state of others. They'll be empowered to respond better, improving interactions and working relationships.

The workshop starts with a fascinating talk about emotions, where participants, armed with a mirror, follow along, mimicking facial expressions and capturing the essence of each emotion.

Then, with newfound knowledge, using clay, participants will be guided through the process of sculpting their chosen emotional expression.

They’ll walk away with:

  • a fresh understanding of emotion

  • the ability to read emotion in the people they interact with

  • a series of experimental drawings

  • a face sculpted from clay

Excellent class. Learning something new while having fun. Facial technique is a fascinating subject and by the time came to leave your head is full of new knowledge and the world is a different place than when you came in. Very much recommended.

Another sparkling session and plenty of laughs. You will never look at people the same again so don’t miss out on the opportunity to learn the mystery of facial expressions and a whole lot more. Plus a chance to see just how good you can interpret your newly found observational skills into a take home clay model. Magic!

I attended the art sculpture workshop and was pleasantly surprised about how much I learned from Sophie. A new world opened for me by looking at people’s facial expressions and more detailed the microexpressions and how they reveal someone’s insight and thinking.

I’m delighted with my first piece of clay work! I attended the very talented and creative Sophie from My Alcomy, Face It! workshop, where I learnt about facial expressions and micro facial expressions, which are very tricky to catch! I highly recommend Sophie’s workshops. You will learn a lot and find it very interesting!
